Complaints regarding personal data privacy, or PDPA, are relatively new and unfamiliar to both Thai nationals and foreigners alike due to their complex and less accessible processes compared to other government agencies, causing inconvenience for individuals to pursue independently.
In this case, a foreigner stayed at a hotel in Phuket and provided their passport information to the hotel. Subsequently, the hotel disclosed the passport information to an unknown woman without confirming whether she intended to further distribute the information or not.
After the lawyer filed a complaint regarding the unauthorized disclosure of personal data to the Personal Data Protection Committee, the hotel contacted them to remedy the situation.
However, if personal data is not used without permission, complaints would not arise
